Can oil harm budgie's eyes?

my budgie have scaly mites, near eye, im using oil to cure it and suffocate mites, unfortunately there are no good avian vets in my country so i have to do it on my own. i will do my best to not get oil in eye but if small amount still gets in, can it cause blindness or anything? :(
