Tattoo help please??!!?

I got a large tattoo (my first) on my calf friday night. I did what my artist said, and yesterday (tuesday) it got very scaly/scabby. I was told this was normal and keep putting lotion on it. I did that, and it was really scaly today (wednesday). Tonight when I took a shower I washed it (very gently) and all the scaly places bubbled up and started coming off. It looks like a LOT of the ink has come out. It has some pink/white where before it was black/grey. What happened???? Did my body reject the ink? Did my artist do something wrong? Did I overdo the lotion? Am I freaking out for nothing? I'd hate to have to get it redone, but I may have to
